What is an RCBO and Different Types of RCBOs

RCBO meaning is Residual Current Breakers with Overcurrent. RCBOs are electrical safety device to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by short circuit, overload, or leakage current. RCBO breaker will trip when an imbalance is deteced.

From 1P+N or 3P+N, the choice of RCBO depends on specific applications and requirements. Various amperage options such as 6A, 10A,16A, 20A,25A, 32A, 40A, 63A, or 100ma RCBOs cater to different circuit capacities. All can contact with your rcbo breaker supplier.

How does an RCBO Work

As stated before, RCBOs shield against two kinds of electrical mishaps. The first is residual current or earth leakage. This fault arises from unintentional circuit breaks. These breaks can happen due to wiring mistakes or accidents, like cutting through a cable while trimming hedges. Without interruption to the electricity supply, an individual may suffer a dangerous electric shock.

The second mishap is overcurrent, manifesting as an overload or short circuit. Overload happens when a circuit is swamped with too many electrical devices. This causes power transfer to exceed cable capacity. Short circuits, on the other hand, occur from low circuit resistance and amplified amperage. This situation carries a higher risk than an overload.

RCBO manufacturer tell you how to wire RCBO

Firstly, disconnect the power supply before starting the RCBO wiring. Next, attach a PE cable to the earth bar. Connect the power cables to the top of the isolator. Position the phase cable to the left of the terminal and place the neutral cable to the right. Finally, cut the busbar to the right length and connect it to the bottom of the isolator and RCBO.

Connect a neutral cable from the isolator’s bottom to the earth bar. Next, prepare for outbound cables – these will be twin-core and earth. Before connecting to the earth bar, cover the earth wires with earth sleeving. Following that, attach the brown live wire to the ‘L’ out terminal. Likewise, the neutral blue wire goes to the ‘N’ out terminal. Cut the wiring to the right length, then connect the earth lead to its bar. Finally, continue the process by connecting the neutral supply lead to its suitable bar.
